Using Arachnophilia to upload your site to Demon.
NB The graphics may take a while to download as I have left them at a high
resolution in order to ensure that they are readable.
As an experiment one of the images is a PNG, if this causes you a problem let
me know.
Download Arachnophila
You can upload your site to demon using Arachnophilia quite easily.
- Have a directory on your HD which mirrors the structure of the web site.
This must include an index.htm(l) on the "root" of your site.
- Load index.htm into Arachnophilia (arach.exe).
- Select Tools, Update website
- You will now get a dialogue box, fill in as follows:
- Site name: Your Choice
- Server name: homepages.demon.co.uk Make sure that there
are no spaces before or after the string, as arach will not work. (Be particularly
careful if you are cutting and pasting from this page, as IE seems to add
an extra space at the end if you are not careful!). If you find that arach
does not upload properly, then type in homepages.demon.co.uk directly.
- User name: Your node name. E.g. if you are "name@plato.demon.co.uk" this
would be " plato "
- Remote directory: Leave Blank
- Local directory: where you keep your hard disk version of the web site.
- Password: Unless you have altered it, this is the same as your password
for logging into demon.
That's all there is to it. All of the methods etc are
clearly outlined
in arach's help. You can now update your site by selecting
the method
and pressing on the Update Site button.
