To access the Internet double click on the Internet Explorer Icon, it looks
like this: ![]()
(It may be on the desk top, on "task bar" near the bottom of the screen,
or in the start menu.)
The browser should now load. You are now ready to surf the net.
In order to go to a website, you need to type an address in the address bar , see below
The address bar
Web address usually have the form:
http://www.something.co.uk (for a UK organisation) or
http://www.something.com (US / International organisation).
It’s best to use all lower case, unless told otherwise. You can omit the "http://" if the rest of the address begins with "www".
Try typing in the following: www.roga.co.uk
followed by
(Return)
Type in the address box: www.google.co.uk
followed by
. This will bring
you to the the google search page. Do a search for something of interest.
Hopefully you will be given a list of links that will take you to sites that
match your search. A link is usually indicated by an underline, or by the
use of colour. You can also tell a link because the cursor changes shape.
Move the mouse over a link and see how a cursor changes shape. To follow the
link click once.
Often
you need to return to the page you just left (i.e. the link wasn’t what you
wanted). On the left of the toolbar are the forward and back buttons. Go back
to Google and choose another link. I bet you can guess what the "Forward
button" does.
Adding
to FavoritesYou can store addresses in "Favorites" (I know, American spelling). This makes it quick to go to sites you want to visit regularly. Select a site from your search, and from the "Favorites" menu select: Add to favorites. You click on the Favorites Icon on the toolbar to access your Favorites.
Now access "Favorites" and select a pre-stored site.
To add or delete addresses from the Favorites list choose "Organise Favorites" from the Favorites menu.
The quickest way to exit any windows program is to use ALT+F4
